Barroso to be Approved by the European Parliament?

An article in Le Monde claims that the conservatives, socialists and liberals of the European Parliament agreed a tripartite pact to assure Jose Manuel Barroso a second mandate. The idea is to extend the “technical alliance” between the European People’s Party and the socialists, to include also the liberals, and to subject the approval of Mr. Barroso to a certain political program that will have to accommodate some of the priorities of the other parties in the tripartite alliance.

This venture brings up uneasy memories of the tripartite coalition in Bulgaria. However, we have reasons to believe that the alliance in the European Parliament may have different, more legitimate, objectives.
