The European Commission has published an overview of the state aid measures of the member states for tackling the economic and financial crisis, and the results of the EC assessments for compliance with state aid guidelines.
In 42 cases the EC decided not to raise an objection. 2 cases – for the restructuring of West LB bank in Germany and the restructuring aid for Northern Rock in the UK are under formal investigation. 9 cases of state aid are still being assessed (but they do not include the controversial French support scheme for the auto sector). 8 cases of real economy crisis measures were approved under the new temporary framework providing member states with additional possibilities to tackle the effects of the credit squeeze on the real economy.
