Stefan Meister and Alexander Rahr German Society for Foreign Policy (DGAP) have published a study on developments in EU-Russia relations after the Georgia war. The authors think that Russia has pursued its interests without any consideration for EU interests, and without any compromise.
The study outlines that in opposing “western” influence in former USSR countries, Russia has effectively opposed the EU Neighborhood policy. Meister and Rahr insist that the EU should have its own policy towards Russia, independently from US policy. They advise on a structural approach, new mechanisms of dialogue, and prevention of conflict escalation.
