New Breakthrough on Climate Change?

A new commitment by G-8 and the Major Economies Forum (MEF) leaders has been reached. MEF has endorsed the 2-degree target for the global mean atmosphere temperature. The MEF forum includes China, Brazil, India, Mexico, and Indonesia – some of the largest developing economies.

However, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the target is “not sufficient,” and should be backed by medium-term measures to prevent the catastrophic impact of climate change.
